Sinus Lift Procedure

When placing dental implants, a sinus lift may be utilized when patients don’t have enough necessary bone support. A sinus lift can help as it increases the amount of bone in the upper jaw by adding bone to the space between your molars and premolars.

When is Sinus Lift Necessary?

When patients are missing teeth or have loose dentures, a dental implant procedure is often recommended. A sinus lift makes placing those dental implants easier. When patients don’t have enough bone height in the upper jaw or their sinuses are too close to the jaw, a sinus lift is often a great option.

Some causes of bone loss include:

  • Periodontal gum disease
  • Losing teeth in the upper jaw
  • Reabsorption of bone into the body after tooth loss

After your sinus lift procedure, your implants will be placed. Some healing time gives the new bone time to merge correctly with your existing bone. How much bone is needed will determine the amount of healing time that may be necessary.
